She interviewed the head of a JMS front group a few years ago. I didn't see the interview, but some other former members did. I went nuts on the heart to heart forum!
They responded with "We didn't promote the JMS cult, the interview was about the Peace and Happiness Society." I responded with, "It's the same organisation you moron."

Argh good times. I'll post another vid later of her interviewing a foreigner in a doomsday cult here. She just sits theremiling and unquestioning as this idiot describes the group' founder who is god on earth.

Jeff's a colleague and good mate down here in Daegu. He used to live in Seoul and the pictures used in the video were from one of his parties. Thought you might know him as well. He's pretty spun out by the whole thing!

Yeah CNN are really giving it to the cult, and while that does play into the cults hands somewhat, it's nice to see someone not pussy foot around the subject and finally call a spade a spade and a cult a cult. But yeah, they would have given the cult less to complain about if they had been more impartial. But I did enjoy seeing the anchors chatting away in disbelief about how nutty this group is. Lee's body guards roughing up the reporter and cameraman probably contributed to some of that. No surer way to get on CNN that to rough up their staff!

Nah, what happened was my first year in Korea just happened to be spent in the hometown of the JMS cult leader. As such there were a rather high proportion of cult members in town. I couldn't spit without hitting one.

My fellow teacher and housemate (shudder shudder) did join. Things got weirder and weirder as her indoctrination deepened, but I didn't take too much notice. Then I unexpectedly found myself at an all night cult event up in the mountains after a friend invited me hiking. That was one very trippy night and I discovered the next day their dear leader was a fugitive wanted for rape.

The next week dozens of members were off to Canada for a big cult festival and I realized there was almost no English info on this cult. There was some, but it was scattered and fragmented and mentioned front groups the cult had since abandoned for new ones. Then my housemate quit the cult and her former friends started hassling her big time making her last months in Korea a nightmare for her. That was pretty tough for me to live with someone scared to leave the house and reduced to crying herself to sleep most nights.

So it was a combination of there being little English info, very serious charges, and the near-nervous breakdown of my housemate. Revenge was certainly an early motivator. Plus their half-assed epic-fail effort to recruit me offended me and I took pleasure in turning the tables.

But I think I was always interested in the subject, but that interest was fairly dormant for most of my life prior to that year. But I do remember spying with fascination as a kid my brother-in-law's copy of The History of the Third Reich. I loved 1984 as a teenager and I always enjoyed being accosted by Jehovah Witnesses.

It's described as a CNN interview, but it and a couple of others bearing the same description don't sound like CNN interviews.

I don't see anything like that on the CNN website, and I can't imagine a reputable journalist asking the question "what kind of lies did Jade tell?"

I just saw that Dahn's saying they were recorded for the CNN story, but weren't aired. I passed them onto someone in contact with the CNN producers just in case they're fibbing or don't have the rights to publish the audio.

Good call. I can see why these interviews weren't aired. Mostly he-said/she-said vague character attacks, and the health claims were pretty off-topic. Ooh, blame it on the differences between Korean and American business culture. Good one.
